Leslie Swartz

Raised in Oakland, California, Leslie went to university in Arkansas, got married and lived most of her adult life in countries in southern Africa.

Her three children, two of whom were born in Harare, Zimbabwe, were raised and schooled there.  She also taught different grades in elementary schools for about 15 years during her years in Zimbabwe, as well as in Botswana.

Since returning to California in 2003, she has  been substitute teaching, which gives her the freedom to devote almost enough time to pursue her interest in art.  She particularly enjoys experimenting with different media, using  photographs and  observations for inspiration.  Usually she uses a combination of photographs to be able to create one whole picture.  Not wanting to be limited to one particular medium, Leslie uses oils, pastels, acrylics, pen and graphite. Her subjects range from trees and elephants to garlic and motorbikes.
